Despite months of COVID-related construction delays, Hanna Commons is finally under construction!

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—On May 27, 2022, UPholdings, along with funding partners CREA, Fifth Third Bank, IHCDA, City of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Housing Authority, Corporation for Supportive Housing, and co-developer, Southeast Neighborhood Development (SEND), closed on construction financing for Hanna Commons. This 55-unit permanent supportive housing development was first conceived in 2017 as a response to the City’s efforts to address the increasing number of residents experiencing homelessness. Construction completion and tenant move-ins are anticipated for Summer 2023. Tenant referrals for Hanna Commons will be made through the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention & Prevention, the local Coordinated Entry System administrator.
The development is located at 2880 Hanna Ave in an area with robust access to shopping, bus route 26, primary health care, and numerous supportive services. Adult & Child Behavioral Health will also provide on-site supportive services for residents such as case management, counseling, and recovery services. SEND President Kelli Mirgeaux stated, “SEND is excited to partner with UPholdings to address the housing crisis in Marion County and further its mission to create, sustain and maintain affordable housing in Southeast Indy.” She further noted that “according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, there is a shortage of rental homes affordable and available to extremely low-income households whose incomes are at or below the poverty guideline or 30% of their Area Median Income (AMI).” Thanks to community partners like SEND and Southeast Community Services (SECS), tenants will have access to job coaches, education, financial literacy, food pantries, mobile health clinics, and more. UPholdings will continue to work with additional community partners throughout the year ahead.
“UPholdings is proud to partner with SEND, Adult & Child, the City of Indianapolis, IHCDA, and many other stakeholders to bring housing opportunities for people experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis. Hanna Commons is the result of tireless work by those who believe in the right of housing for everyone. We look forward to continuing to advance our mission in partnership with like-minded organizations and institutions in Indianapolis.”
- Jessica Hoff Berzac, President and Principal, UPholdings.
